Company ideas

Colour schemes:
I chose royal blue, yellow and green, as the colour schemes for my company.
I chose these colours because, blue shows richness, superiority, and wisdom, yellow shows understanding, logical, social and intelligence, and green shows money, and ambition. In my opinion i think these three colours go very nicely with each other, especially for a school logo, because although they do not look very mature and business like i think they are the perfect colours for a school logo.

Aim:
My main aim as a designer for the ZIStore, is to create a logo that will be taken over as the main one for this company. So i want to create a logo that has something to do with all of the things that the store is involved with in one logo.
here are a few of my the photos i have taken that i think could help me make a good logo. Whilst thinking of american sweets, and an american shop, it also made me think to make another logo with some of americas great icons, so i will use things like the.. Statue of Liberty, Baseball, American Football, role models from America such as, Michael Jordan, Barack Obama...

Janne - Basketball hoop http://thomes03.blogspot.com/

the basketball hoop is a great design because you can adjut how high it is to improve your shooting or anyother attributes you want to improve, and it also has the space between the backboard and the thing at the back, whihc makes it look like one from the nba

Nicki - Blackberry http://johnsthoughtstoday.blogspot.com/

I also think tha blackberry are a grea deesign since you can do so much with them.

Ika - La-Z-Boy Chairs http://jasonsmithforever.blogspot.com/

This chair looks unbelievably comfortable and i think it is a great design as well.

Light bulb

A light bulb is one of the greatest designs ever. Although after a while its fuse will run out, it is well worths its money, because without light at night there is very little you can do, without doubt it has got to go down as one of the most useful designs ever created.

Boat

A speed boat is a great design. It is a great design because you can use it every summer for years, having great fun with it, going o it everyday and water skiing off it, or other water-sports, just like a car it is not guaranteed that it will always work and never fail on you, but when it does it is one of the best things to have fun with on a beach holiday.

Car

A car is a great design, since it can get you from place to place in whatever time you choose, specific cars a good for specific things, if you want a fast car, it is probably not as economical as a slower car.

Goalie Gloves

Now a days goalie gloves are created so well that the chances of you breaking a finger or hurting your hand is very little, they are also quite comfortable to wear. The great things about goalie gloves these days is that they have finger save, whihc tries to prevent your fingers from breaking, on good goalie gloves they will have some sort of padding at your wrist to try and prevent you form breaking your wrist.

Lacoste T-Shirt

This week i chose A lacoste t shirt is a great design because you need to wear something and a lacoste t shirt is definetly the way to go, it is 100 % cotton, and extremely comfortable.

This is a monochromatic Relationship

Colour

Why study colour?

first involved the communication of colours; the other involved the application of colour.

Communicating Colour

Albert Munsells develloped a colour system that gives means to colour names. This could make you specific when talking about which colour you are using.
Colour Basics Colour is a characteristic of light. A colour is determined in three ways:
By its name, how pure it is, and its value or lightness.

Color Systems

Available color systems are dependent on the medium with which a designer is working. When painting, an artist has a variety of paints to choose from, and mixed colors are achieved through the subtractive color method. When a designer is utilizing the computer to generate digital media, colors are achieved with the additive color method.

Subtractive Color. When we mix colors using paint, or through the printing process, we are using the subtractive color method. Subtractive color mixing means that one begins with white and ends with black; as one adds color, the result gets darker and tends to black.

CMYK is a subtractive color systemThe CMYK color system is the color system used for printing.Painter color wheelThose colors used in painting—an example of the subtractive color method.

Additive Color. If we are working on a computer, the colors we see on the screen are created with light using the additive color method. Additive color mixing begins with black and ends with white; as more color is added, the result is lighter and tends to white.

RGB is an additive color systemThe RGB colors are light primaries and colors are created with light. RGB color wheelPercentages of red, green, & blue light are used to generate color on a computer screen.
Working With Systems

visible-spectrumThe Visible spectrum consists of billions of colors, a monitor can display millions, a high quality printer is only capable of producing thousands, and older computer systems may be limited to 216 cross-platform colors.

Reproducing color can be problematic with regard to printed, digital media, because what we see is not what is possible to get. Although a monitor may be able to display 'true color' (16,000,000 colors), millions of these colors are outside of the spectrum available to printers. Since digital designs are generated using the RGB color system, colors used in those designs must be part of the CMYK spectrum or they will not be reproduced with proper color rendering. Working within the CMYK color system, or choosing colors from Pantone© palettes insures proper color rendering.

Color Wheel

twelve color wheel A color wheel (also referred to as a color circle) is a visual representation of colors arranged according to their chromatic relationship. Begin a color wheel by positioning primary hues equidistant from one another, then create a bridge between primaries using secondary and tertiary colors.

These terms refer to color groups or types:

primary colors Primary Colors: Colors at their basic essence; those colors that cannot be created by mixing others.

secondary colors Secondary Colors: Those colors achieved by a mixture of two primaries.

tertiary colors Tertiary Colors: Those colors achieved by a mixture of primary and secondary hues.

complementary colors - red and green Complementary Colors: Those colors located opposite each other on a color wheel.

analogous colors Analogous Colors: Those colors located close together on a color wheel.

The color wheel can be divided into ranges that are visually active or passive. Active colors will appear to advance when placed against passive hues. Passive colors appear to recede when positioned against active hues.
color wheel displaying active - passive ranges

* Advancing hues are most often thought to have less visual weight than the receding hues.
* Most often warm, saturated, light value hues are "active" and visually advance.
* Cool, low saturated, dark value hues are "passive" and visually recede.
* Tints or hues with a low saturation appear lighter than shades or highly saturated colors.
* Some colors remain visually neutral or indifferent.

Color relationships may be displayed as a color wheel or a color triangle.

Painter's color wheel The Painter's color triangle consists of colors we would often use in art class—those colors we learn about as children. The primary hues are red, blue and yellow.

Printer's color wheel The Printers' color triangle is the set of colors used in the printing process. The primaries are magenta, cyan, and yellow.

Goethe color wheel Nine-part harmonic triangle of Goethe begins with the printer's primaries; the secondaries formed are the painter's primaries; and the resulting tertiaries formed are dark neutrals.

Complementary Colors

We look at a color wheel to understand the relationships between colors. Analogous colors are positioned in such a way as to mimic the process that occurs when blending hues. The colors that are positioned opposite one another are complementary colors.
red and green yellow-green and red-purple purple and yellow

yellow-orange and blue-violet orange and blue red-orange and blue-green

To call those hues in direct opposition to each other "complements of each other" is appropriate. Complementary colors bring out the best in each other. When fully saturated complements are brought together, interesting effects are noticeable. This may be a desirable illusion, or a problem if creating visuals that are to be read.

Note that Vibrating Boundaries may occur when opposing colors are brought together.

(Notice the illusion of highlighted edges and raised text.)

Perceptual Opposites. We learn from the relationships displayed by a color wheel that every color has an opposite. Every color has both a color wheel opposite as well as a perceptual opposite. Without a color wheel, it is still possible to find the opposite of a color and this is due to a phenomenon of our eyes. Due to the physiological differences between individuals, everyone's perceptions do vary—the complements shown below are my own perceived opposites:

sky blue surce - peach after image result
yellow surce - periwinkle after image result
orange surce - aqua after image result

Paul Rand

Digital Design

Title: The title of my Poster is Paul Rand. Paul Rand had a 75 with lots of IBM logos around it. The 75 was to represent that IBM has been around for 75 years. This is similar to my poster as I used Paul Rand as my title which is about half way down the page in big writing, and I have scattered the different logos that he created around the poster, with his ways of making posters, also scattered around it. My poster is very similar to Paul Rands style as he had a black background with a white 75 in big with IBM in different colours scattered around. Mine is on a black background, with Paul Rands name in big writing in white and with his style of design and creations scattered around the poster. As Paul Rand used the IBM logo scattered around the poster, I felt as though I had to use the logos that Paul Rand created, instead of just writing the name of the company down. He also put the IBM words upside down sideways the wrong way round, so I also tried to copy this point of his by putting some of his logos upside down, or slightly slanted.

Scarf

A scarf is a great design as it keeps your neck warm, and it is very comfortable to wear around your neck. Most scarfs are made out of cotton, which makes it comfortable and warm around your neck. you can get scarfs with all different sorts of designs on them, you can get some which support the club you support, or with a design which you think is in fashion.

A pencil

A pencil is a great design as you can use it every day for a month, the led will break, but when it does you just sharpen it up and it is as good as new. there are loads of different style shoes, you can get them in different colours. You can also buy them with grip on them to help your fingers stop slipping off the pen.

A football

I feel as though a football is a great design, as you can use it for years, depending on who oyu buy it from you are given a guarentee on the stiching so if it starts to unstitch you can tae it back and they will give you a new one, if you buy a good make the ball will not go out of shape.=, and you will be able to use it for years. Depending on what your sport is, if it is football well then you can buy a ball with a special design on it, you can buy it with your football teams emblem on it, and you can keep until the day you die and unless it gets punctured you will be able to play with it until then.

Rubiks Cube

The aim of the rubiks cube it to get all the same colours on the same side, all the colours get more and more mixed up as you are trying to find the right way to get all of the colours on the same side. I think that it is a great design as it is easy to have fun with, everybody loves them, they are a good time waster, they are very cheap and easy to use.
Ascenders are the parts of letters that are taller than x height.
The X Height is the height of the main body of the lowercase letters.
Descenders are the parts of letters that are below the baseline (the invisible line on which the type sits.)
There are three main types, Script, sans serif and serif.

Contrast

  1. To add contrast to my poster i added a bit more colour in the writing to make it look more colourful and attractive.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Contrast

  • Contrasts aim is to to bring your eyes to the piece.
  • If you place two elements on a page make sure they aren't similar at all.
  • Create an interest on the page.
  • be strong, don't be wimp.
  • avoid mixing black writing with brown, if the items aren't the same make them completely different.

Repetition

  1. Repetition is often thought to be bad and tried to be avoided, but really, it is useful, because it brings visual interest and it unifies the poster.
  2. Avoid overdoing repetition, because it does get annoying after a while.
  3. Repetition strengthens your poster by putting trying to put two different pieces connected.
  4. Do not use repetition if you are writing more than one page.

Alignment

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Alignment

  • Every picture should refer to the text.
  • Have everything aligned well so you don't have things all over the place.
  • Avoid aligning more than one text.
  • have things spread out to the sides, try to avoid having everything in the center.

New School Building

The school was built and they tried to aim for as much green as they can and as little concrete or stone.
I think they failed. The room I am sitting in has two big concrete pillars holding the concrete roof up. This is one room out of about 81 and it is already about 1/3 concrete. They also wanted to have alot of green, and  I feel as though they do not have much at all, they have no grass that we can go to and sit on and and realax. In my opinion I feel this shows that they failed in trying to make it more green and not so mch concrete.

Nomis

The company that I would like to work for is called Nomis. Within this company i would like to help advertise them, although a few major rugby players and football players wear them, i dont think that they are well advertised. I.E www.prodirectsoccer.com is one of  the biggest website for advertising football boots, and Nomis who consider themselves better than nike and adidas are not even on the website. If they want more big names than what they already have wearing them they need to advertise them properly and put the boots into  as many advertisers as they can.

London UNderground

The London Underground map is easy to use, it follows the form vs function, alot of other underground use the same map which proves that it is a great design, and it was created about 70 years ago, so if it was not easy to understand or not a good design it would have been changed by now.

The chair is a great design because it is a revolution in technology materials, new materials in new shapes.

Precourse Survey

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Every year in school a teacher has assigned us to create a poster, about french verbs, or different countries, or different religions and so on.... Last year in ENglish with Ms Freeman, we were assigned to create a poster on countries with problems. My group and I were assigned a country in africa, and although at the time i thought it was very well designed, now i think back at it it couldve been better. We could have improved our poster by not leaving as many white spots, or having a lot of attractive colours to attract readers.

As i read more about great designs and what is a great design and what isnt it shows me that i have still got a lot to learn.

My Great Design

Great Design 1

• Best selling products are good designs
• Good design aren’t as good as we thing because they are very hard to use
• Design should match up with expectation (need to fulfil)
• Old technology good and useful, new is complicated but looks better
• Value is added to the uniqueness of a piece
• Ease of use

Great Design 2

• Every product should be produced as cheap as possible
• A lot of things have to be taken into consideration when designing something
• Design only costs once, but it brings in more and more money, with ever product it sells
• Simple things don’t sell better, because more complicated things are needed such as colour types etc.
• Design can change lives of humans
• Artists beauty is irrelevant

Great Design 3

• Design gets you to be the #1 sold product in your category
• Getting every aspect of the design perfect, making a usable product, making the right tradeoffs between price and functionality, between flexibility and ease of use, between weight and battery life is not 100% necessary to be the best selling product
• Design has to be state of art
• No one should be able to compete with your design (it should be a must have product)
• Design has to meet my customer’s needs
• Design does not have to be 100% perfect (example: red bull)
• Has a certain flaw

My ipod

I choose my ipod as my great design, since i think that it is a great thing to have. It is great to have because, you can listen to music for the whole day without running out of battery since you can listen to it for 40 hours with out the battery dieing, or you can watch up to 7 hours of movies. It has 80 gb of memory so you can have up to 40,000 songs. on the ipod video you can obviously download songs onto it, you can watch movies, tv programs, watch games, and you can do alot more things. So therefor the ipod can do everything you would want an mp3 player o do and alot more, the ipod is also very nice you can get it in in silver or black, i think it is a great design.

Online food places now let you choose a type of pizza and toppings that you want.

Food companies are now focusing on there web design more than they did before.

Advertisers have looked at the internet as tool for making everything possible.

Companies have now made t possible to let people choose exactly what they want to do.
